Button up or button down, that is the question? We think this detail adds a little something special to the humble pinafore. Denim hardware and snaps are our favourite.

If you havenโ€™t heard the news, rust is the new black! We love this shade because is works perfectly as a neutral, and offsets any pattern or print perfectly.

Denim doesnโ€™t need an introduction does it? Like Thelma to Louise, and Louise to Jenny, a pinafore and denim are the perfect pairing!

Aprons most certainly donโ€™t belong in the kitchen. We just love the simplicity of an apron style pinafore. Clean and simple lines that feel oh so Scandi, especially when made from a natural fabric like linen.

We are ALL about details, are you? The best thing about making your own clothes is choosing each and every aspect of your garment. Why not add some flair to your pinafore too? ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Pinafore + Dungaree Dress Sewing Pattern Round Up

IMG_0187.png

If you havenโ€™t joined the pinafore squad yet, we might just be about to change all that. We think that pinafores belong in every wardrobe, itโ€™s just about finding the right one for you. Hereโ€™s a round up of our fave patterns, some we have made and some are just on a very long wish list. All of them are perfect choices if you wanna bring this gem into your daily wear.

The Catherine pinafore is our first Cut One Pair twinning pattern, and we both loved the relaxed, 70s vibe of this pattern and the little trick used to make the pockets. Itโ€™s a great one to layer, even a chunky jumper works under beauty!

IMG_0189.png

Pattern description:

Here is Catherine, the pinafore dress aka the overallsโ€™ feminine version, perfect for the girl boss that you are. With its 4 pockets and a low rise waist, it is very functional. Catherine has a 70โ€™s look - without the mini skirt part - and can be worn depending on your mood and the vibe you want to send. You can lengthen or shorten the skirt to make it fit your legsโ€™ length, and fix the bracesโ€™ fit by cutting them or moving the buttons.

Why we love it:

70s style + relaxed fit

You canโ€™t talk about pinafore sewing patterns without mentioning the iconic Cleo pinafore and dungaree dress. We have both made a lot of these!

IMG_0195.png

Pattern description:

Cleo is easy to make and oh so comfortable to wear. Make it dungaree-style with buckles or as a pinafore with buttons, with mini- or knee-length hem, optional centre front split, choice of patch pockets and contrast topstitching. Wear Cleo year round, over a Breton top in the summer or with a roll neck and snuggly tights in winter. Flattering on different shapes, once you try it, you'll wonder how you lived without a dungaree dress!

Why we love it:

Quick & easy to make

Pippi pinafore dress is a gorgeous silhouette that is perfect for teaming with a shirt underneath, or a fitted polo neck. Itโ€™s definitely on the list.

IMG_0201.png

Pattern description:

The Pippi Pinafore will become your favourite go-to weekend dress. Darts and gently curved sides shape the bib, creating a flattering silhouette for multiple bust sizes. The pleated front skirt and side button placket create a relaxed look while also stepping your sewing repertoire up a few notches.

Straps cross over the back and fasten to the bib using your choice of overall hardware  or buttons (depending on what you have in your stash). And deep, curved patch pockets make sure you have room for everything you might need throughout the day.

Why we love it:

Feminine silhouette and very wearable

Camden pinafore dress is a great smart alternative to the dungaree style dress and we love that you can just make a skirt too!

IMG_0208.png

Pattern description:

Fun, versatile and fully-lined, Camden is a joy to sew and wear! Choose between the full pinafore or the skirt option (with two lengths); both are lined and feature stylish patch pockets! The pinafore has a deep V-neckline and princess seams that pleasingly flow into the lines of the skirt. The close-fitting bodice and waistband make the Camden pinafore perfect for layering over finer tops, or wearing on its own in the summer! The simple skirt on the other hand is there for you all year round, ready to be paired with chunky knits and woolly tights through to camis and espadrilles!
